| The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the DHHC palmitoyltransferase family. Mutations in this gene are associated with mental retardatio X-linked type 91 (MRX91). Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009],catalytic activity:Palmitoyl-CoA + protein-cysteine = S-palmitoyl protein + CoA.,disease:Defects in ZDHHC15 are the cause of mental retardation X-linked type 91 (MRX91) [MIM:300577]. Mental retardation is characterized by significantly sub-average general intellectual functioning associated with impairments in adaptative behavior and manifested during the developmental period.
