Arka Plan
| Hepatocyte growth factor regulates cell growth, cellmotility, and morphogenesis by activating a tyrosine kinasesignaling cascade after binding to the proto-oncogenic c-Metreceptor. Hepatocyte growth factor is secreted by mesenchymal cellsand acts as a multi-functional cytokine on cells of mainlyepithelial origin. Its ability to stimulate mitogenesis, cellmotility, and matrix invasion gives it a central role inangiogenesis, tumorogenesis, and tissue regeneration. It issecreted as a single inactive polypeptide and is cleaved by serineproteases into a 69-kDa alpha-chain and 34-kDa beta-chain. Adisulfide bond between the alpha and beta chains produces theactive, heterodimeric molecule. The protein belongs to theplasminogen subfamily of S1 peptidases but has no detectableprotease activity. Alternative splicing of this gene producesmultiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. [providedby RefSeq]. |
